Solar
Thermal Power Plants
Solar energy is the most abundant form
of energy on earth. This is true not only in relation to its geographic
distribution but also with regards to the total energy being available.
When talking about solar energy central
Europeans often only think about photovoltaic systems and solar
water heating. But there is a third possibility further south: solar
thermal electricity generation.
The recently in June 2005 commissioned
report for the World Bank „Assessment of the World Bank /
GEF Strategy for the Market Development of Concentrating Solar Thermal
Power“ is pointing out a couple of advantages of solar thermal
power with respect to other renewable energies and photovoltaic
systems:
- Good opportunity to integrate with
and utilize existing conventional power plant technologies due
to their thermodynamic process character
- Solar thermal power is dispatchable as usually much less
stochastic than e.g. wind energy, and in connection with a thermal
storage system load matching can be done
- Large available resources especially in developing countries
enable high economic growth especially in those countries with backlog
- High maturity of technology possesses
the potential to quickly install climate protection projects with
large emission savings while the technical risk remains limited
All these are excellent reasons to help
solar thermal power plants to its breakthrough.
But we are not only focusing on large pure solar power plants. Especially
in the next years to come we favour small decentral mini solar thermal
power plants (MSTPPs) and solar add-ons for conventional power plants.
The technological base for this is the robust and simple linear
fresnel collector producing saturated steam.
We want solar thermal electricity generation
technologies to become a standard option for the power supply of
solar rich regions of the world.
We gladly offer our support and our services for the evaluation
and realization of your ideas for your solar thermal power generation
project.
